Sprint PCS to Add 500 Jobs in Lawrence
Kansas City-based Spring PCS will add 500 jobs to its Lawrence customer care center by the end of 2000. The increase in staff is necessary because PCS added 839,000 new customers in the third quarter of 2000.
VoiceStream to Hire 300 More Workers than First Announced
VoiceStream Wireless recently dedicated its new national customer care call center in Wichita. The 68,000 square foot center in northeast Wichita employs 450 and is expected to increase that number to more than 800 by the end of the year. When VoiceStream first announced plans for the call center in March, the company expected to employ 500.
Norfolk Iron & Metal to Expand in Emporia
Norfolk Iron & Metal Company of Norfolk, Nebraska is planning a $7.1 million project to serve its customers in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas. By first quarter 2001 construction will begin on a 150,000 square foot steel distribution and processing facility and an 8,000 square foot administration office building in East Industrial Park III in southeast Emporia. Operations will begin by early 2002 with an initial workforce of 40 employees, with employment expected to reach 100 within five years.
