Nortel Expands in Richardson
Nortel Networks is expanding at their Richardson campus. The telecom conglomerate will construct a seven-story, 282,000 square foot building in Galatyn Park, a project owned and developed by Hunt Petroleum. The facility will house 1,200 new employees, giving Nortel a total of 10,000 workers in Richardson. The facility is scheduled for completion by May 2001.

Dell Computer to Hire 500 in Fort Worth
Round Rock-based Dell Computer Corporation will hire 500 people in Fort Worth to work in the company’s newly leased sales and technical support center in a 75,000 square foot building at the Alliance Gateway Business Park. The Fort Worth location will augment Dell’s existing U.S. sales, technical support and manufacturing operation in Austin and Nashville. Over the last two years, Dell has established new locations in Tennessee; Eldorado do Sul, Brazil; and Xiamen, China and seven new manufacturing facilities worldwide. This year Dell added one million square feet in three buildings to its Central Texas operations and 660,000 square feet in two facilities to its Tennessee operation.

AT&T Bringing 600 Jobs to Legacy
AT&T Wireless Group has leased a building in the 255,000 square foot former Omnicom complex in Legacy, and will hire 600 people for a variety of jobs including telemarketing and customer service.

Novo Industries to Expand in Houston
An expansion planned for Novo Industries manufacturing and distribution operations in Houston will create 500 new jobs over the next three years. The company already has 600,000 square feet of space on 60 acres of land in Northwest Harris County. The firm will spend $14 million to construct and equip a new 350,000 square foot building to increase its capacity. Novo manufactures window and patio door blinds.

WideOpen West to Hire 300 in Metroplex
WideOpen West L.L.C. will lease space in North Richland Hills and Irving and employ 300 people to provide broadband services to Metroplex residents and businesses. WideOpen West, based in Castle Rock, Colorado, is building a high-capacity broadband fiber-optic network that will offer high-speed Internet, digital cable television and Internet-based telephone services. The company will lease 59,879 square feet in the Richland Business Centre and move in during first quarter 2001. In Irving, WideOpen leased 21,000 square feet of space in Texas Plaza II. Employees will be hired for sales, construction, technical abilities and operations.

East Plano to Gain 100 Jobs
Hendry Telephone Products, a California-based manufacturer of phone boxes, is quadrupling its space in East Plano with a new manufacturing plant and expanding its workforce to 400, an addition of about 100 employees. The 72-year-old Hendry is building a $13.5 million, 200,000 square foot light manufacturing facility on a 12-acre site at the Plano Tech Center.
