Biopure Corporation to Build $85 Million Facility in Sumter

Biopure Corporation will build an $85 million biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Sumter. The company will create 185 jobs over the next several years to support production of the company's Oxygen Therapeutic solutions for use in human and veterinary medicine. The new facility will be located on 35 acres in Sumter, and have a production capacity of 500,000 Hemopure units per year. Ground breaking is scheduled to occur in the fall of 2001.

Charleston Gains New CSI Headquarters Facility

Cambar Software (CSI), a software development company expanding in the Charleston region will open a new 30,000-square-foot headquarters facility in Charleston by third quarter 2001. The company will develop a five-acre mini-campus near the entrance to the Charleston Regional Business Center and hire 100 people over the next three years. The new CSI facility will be a unique "green" structure, incorporating "daylit" technology to provide year-round natural lighting. Building materials will be derived largely from recycled materials, and plans call for solar energy to help power the building. The project represents a $5 million investment for the company. CSI has operated in the Charleston area for 20 years. The company develops and markets a wide range of distribution and supply chain management solutions, including web-based programs for e-commerce.

Carter & Burgess Opens New Office in Greenville

Fort Worth, Texas-based consulting firm Carter & Burgess has opened an office in Greenville. The Greenville office will eventually employ 175 people. It will be the first in a series of new offices opened that will provide a Southeast anchor for the company. Offices will also be opened in Atlanta and Charlotte. Carter & Burgess services in the Southeast will include transportation, retail, buildings, land development, public works and construction management.

Sysco to Create 400 Jobs in Columbia

Sysco Corporation will construct a facility in Columbia. The new operation will include 266,000 square feet of building space and will be operational by first quarter of 2002. The company will hire 400 people initially, with the employment base to reach 600 by 2005.
