Technologies Will Expand in Henrico County, Create 1,100
Jobs
Infineon
Technologies will expand in Henrico County by becoming the
first semiconductor manufacturer to commercially produce
300 mm wafers on the East Coast. Infineon Technologies Richmond,
formerly known as White Oak Semiconductor, will create 1,100
new jobs. The expansion adds 500,000 square feet to an existing
administration building and includes a wafer fabrication
building. Production will begin in early 2002.
Howard
Hughes Plans $500 Million Campus
Howard
Hughes Medical Institute, based in Chevy Chase, Md., will
develop a $500 million, 500,000-square-foot biomedical campus
on 281 acres in Loudoun County, Va. The facility will house
more than 300 scientists and support staff. Howard Hughes
has a $12 billion endowment and is one of the largest medical
grant-making and research groups in the country.

Company to Bring 150 Jobs to Virginia
Fairchild
Dornier will relocate its United States headquarters from
San Antonio, Tex., to Virginia. The Fairfax County facility
will invest $15 million and employ 150 people in sales and
marketing, product support and senior leadership. Fairchild
Dornier is a manufacturer of jet aircraft for the airline,
corporate and government markets and provides a wide range
of sales, support, production and engineering services for
the aviation industry. Fairchild Dornier has its primary
production and design facilities in Oberpfaffenhofen, near
Munich, Germany. Production facilities will remain in San
Antonio and other locations worldwide.
Investors
Corporation to Locate in Martinsville
Investors
Corporation will locate in Martinsville, and expand the
former Pulaski Furniture facility. The furniture manufacturer
will create 380 new jobs and invest $12 million in the project.
Investors Corporation is headquartered in British Columbia.
It is a multinational firm that owns and operates large-scale
wood furniture manufacturing facilities. The Martinsville
location will produce the company's solid wood general household
furniture products.
Ethan
Allen to Employ 445 People in Pulaski County
Ethan
Allen has commenced operations in Pulaski County. The company
has acquired the former Pulaski Furniture plant and is preserving
the jobs of the 376 people working there at the time of
acquisition. In addition to saving these jobs, Ethan Allen
will create 70 new jobs and invest $12 million.
Firm
Relocates from Indiana to Rural Virginia
Heat
Transfer Specialties, a subsidiary of Entrodyne Corporation,
will locate in the Rockbridge Regional Industrial Park in
the City of Buena Vista. The relocation of HTS from Jeffersonville,
Indiana to Buena Vista will involve an investment in facilities,
equipment, and improvements of $3.5 million. Employment
will total 250 people, including assemblers, welders, electricians,
and support personnel..
