QUIZ #3 ANSWER
This is where the South really gets a black eye when compared
to other regions. The South leads all regions in the U.S.
with (a) 774.3 million pounds of toxic releases in 1999. Following
the South is the Midwest with (c) 508.1; West with (d) 377.5;
and Northeast with (b) 146.7. Much of the South's largest
sources of toxic releases come from coal burning electric
power plants, which are being replaced rapidly by natural
gas-fired plants. Texas leads all U.S. states with 168 million
pounds of toxic releases, followed by Ohio (118) and Indiana
(115).
